Day 25 - Orchard to Sioux City, IA

I'm in Iowa !!!! - 104 miles from Orchard - longest mileage day. And relaxing at the AA Sioux City Explorers baseball game.

Did a quick ride from Orchard to Plainview, leaving Orchard at 7:30. Then spent an hour at D&K Lanes and Cafe. Great conversation; talked to the "local hero" who at 82 still runs the 100, 200, and 400 at National Senior Competitions. Breakfast "on the house". The owner is just turning 50 and she has 5 grand kids. Oldest is 10; her son-in-law is local dentist.

It's 9:30 and I have 37 miles left today and nothing to look forward to in Laurel for the night.

Leave Plainview at 10:00, and will make a decision when I get to Laurel.

Cruise thru Randoph; Laurel at 12:30; feel good; no reason to stop for the night.

Cancel Laurel reservation; make reservation in Sioux City; eat and hydrate; call Bill to congratulate him, and walk out of the restaurant. Bank thermometer says it is 97 !! Oh well, stay hydrated !! Leave at 1:30 - 41 miles to go and the locals say the next 25 are very hilly. They are correct.

Into Sioux City at 4:30. Hot and tired. Question now is if i will need a rest day before Milwaukee.

Heading to Sac City on Friday - 77 miles, but I've learned to pace myself. Need to really ride smart to Milwaukee.

Orchard to Sioux City - Corn is King !! Really magnificent crop farms as far as the eye can see. In this Summer only irrigated farms have healthy crops. Price of corn has gone from 4.50 per bushel to almost 8.00 in one month.

5 nights and 431 miles on Route 20 in Nebraska. Glad it's complete, and have memories that will last a lifetime.
